Professional capabilities come to life as new video launched

19 May 2022

The Podiatry Board of Australia (the Board) has launched a video highlighting the new Professional capabilities for podiatrists and podiatric surgeons.

The professional capabilities, which came into effect on 1 January this year, identify the knowledge, skills and professional attributes needed to safely and competently practise as a podiatrist, or podiatric surgeon in Australia.

Board Chair A/Prof Cylie Williams said: ‘We’re delighted to launch this short animation to promote and explain the professional capabilities, a fundamental set of expectations for our profession.

‘We hope that this video, which introduces the five integrated domains of the capabilities, will help practitioners and the public understand and actively engage with the capabilities.

‘The capabilities describe the minimum level of professional capability needed for registration as a podiatrist or podiatric surgeon and practitioners have a responsibility to be familiar with them.’

As well as introducing the five integrated domains, the video focuses on how the capabilities relate to continuing professional development and the importance of cultural safety as a key component of safe healthcare, particularly with respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

We’ll be sharing the video on our social media so make sure you’re connected with us if you aren’t already and keep an eye out for the videos. Let us know what you think about the video and be sure to share it with your colleagues.
