The Podiatry Accreditation Committee is calling for feedback on draft proposed professional capabilities and accreditation standards.
Professional capabilities identify the knowledge, skills and professional attributes needed to safely and competently practise as a podiatrist or podiatric surgeon in Australia. They describe the threshold level of professional capability required for both initial and continuing registration.
Accreditation standards outline the requirements that education providers must meet to ensure they are equipping graduates with the professional capabilities they need to safely and competently practice in Australia.
'Demands on podiatrists are continuing to grow and evolve. It’s crucial that education providers understand and meet the accreditation standards and ensure that their programs deliver content that is relevant to the contemporary practice of podiatry in Australia,' said Dr Meeuwis Boelen, Chair of the Podiatry Accreditation Committee.
The Accreditation Committee has developed the draft proposed professional capabilities and accreditation standards as part of its work as the accreditation authority for podiatry under the National Law.
The Committee, led by chair Dr Meeuwis Boelen, is consulting widely with podiatrists, employers, professional associations, education providers and health consumer organisations during this work.
The Accreditation Committee welcomes feedback on the draft proposed professional capabilities and the draft proposed accreditation standards from education providers, employers, professional associations, practitioners, other stakeholders and the community. The consultation papers can be downloaded from the Podiatry Accreditation Committee’s consultation page. The consultation is open until 12 March 2021.
It is anticipated that the professional capabilities and accreditation standards will be finalised in the second half of 2021.
